Termite Swarm
The dreaded termite swarm. Whether you are having a Tampa termite swarm, or even a St Petersburg termite swarm, the swarming process is the same. Swarming occurs every year when the weather begins to warm the rains begin.
The reason there are termites swarm is they have hopes to start a nest in a new location. Termite swarms are weak fliers and must rely on wind currents to help them get to a new area.
Once the flight has ended, termites will shed their wings and then will resemble small worms. These wormy looking creatures will crawl into voids and cracks; the perfect nesting site for these wood chewers. In the new areas, the termite will begin a new nest by depositing her eggs.
Termite Swarming will occur at different times of day; depending on the type of termite. Some termite swarms happen during the day while others will fly after the sun goes down. The Eastern Subterranean Termite swarms during the day. Their swarm generally occurs between October through February. While Drywood Termites, depending on the species, will swarm day or night. This happens typically April through May. However, there are some species that swarm the entire year. Even the Formosan Termite like a night flight during late spring. No matter when the termites fly, they are an indication of a nest in close proximity.
Just so you are aware, ants will swarm as well. Often times, they are easily be mistaken for termites. Here are some differences between termite and ant swarmers. The four wings on the ant wings are generally shorter that than the body. These wings will also be two different sizes. While termites have four wings. These wings are not only the same length but also extend past the body. Another difference is the ant has an antenna that is elbowed. The termite has straight antennae.
Now, you may not see signs of a termite infestation beside seeing the swarmer of the termite with their shed wings. If you see one or more, or their dropped wings, get help with your Tampa Termites.
