Brandon Drain Flies   arrow

There really are few things as disgusting as a drain fly. This goes double if they live in a restaurant. That’s why today, we’ll be going over exactly what the Brandon drain flies are. Not only that, but we’ll discuss a few home remedies for them, and what you should do if those don’t work.

Brandon Drain Flies: What Are They?

Drain flies are small, black flies that are less than an inch long. Some of them are more brownish in color, but they all have a pattern of veins in their wings. Some people know them as a moth, sewer, or filter flies. Their bodies and wings are covered with hairs, and if they’re crushed they leave a powdery smudge.

When dealing with the Brandon drain flies and their infestation, identification is key. You have to make sure to not confuse them with another fly because that changes the method of pest control that you should use. Some flies they’re confused with include fruit flies, phorid flies, and sphaerocerid flies. And if you see a small gnat or fly type insect, don’t assume it’s coming from the drains. Make sure to check the area for grease, puddles, and rotting food first.

What Should You Do?

Well, to start with, there are a few steps you can take to get ahead of the problem. For starters, begin in the drain. They live off the debris and sewage that gets caught in there, so cleaning them out with a knife to scrape the sides and inspect for larvae.  Placing tape over the drain itself can help as well, with a few holes poked in it for air. If you peel the tape off and see flies on it, that’s confirmation of an infestation. So try and remove all organic debris trapped in small cracks and crevices under the legs and bottom edges of your kitchen equipment. And then use caulk to seal the cracks.

But outside of general cleanliness, there’s not much a layman can do in this situation. That’s why it’s best that you contact a natural pest control specialist to deal with your Brandon drain flies as soon as possible.
