Just What We Need, Another Florida Cockroach

You read the heading correctly. There is a new cockroach that has been spotted by some in Florida. This cockroach is considered pretty in the cockroach world. Can any roach actually be called pretty? I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Either way, to me, whether the cockroach is pretty or not is of little concern. The only thing I am really thinking about is… Just What we need, Another Florida Cockroach.

The new Florida cockroach is known as the Pale Bordered Filed Cockroach. These bugs range in size from about a half an inch to around three-quarters of an inch in length. Their heads are red. So is their pronotum which also has a yellow ring around the red color. There are also yellow markings that run down the wings.

The good news, the Pale Bordered Filed Cockroach, is an outdoor cockroach. The roach is found mainly around shrubs, leaves, and gardens. This insect is omnivorous. Consequently, it will derive its nutrition from just about anything it finds. It will feed on sweets, grease, and so much more.

Since this roach is an outside bug, at this time it is not considered a pest. There will be times when it will find a way into your home or business. Access generally happens when they find an entry via an open door, a hole in the house, and even enter via the crawlspace. As long as an opening exists, there is a possibility that the Pale Bordered Filed Cockroach will find a way inside.

Another Florida Cockroach – Pale Bordered Field Cockroach Control

Although these roaches are not usually considered a pest, it cannot hurt to protect your home from a possible invader. By providing a routine pest control treatment to holes, entryways, and plant areas around your home, you will reduce the likelihood of seeing one inside. This is a treatment you can do yourself. Or you can hire a professional exterminator who is well versed in cockroach behavior to assist. Since a professional bug person is well equipped to help reduce the chances on an invader, it is a good idea to seek their assistance.
