Clearwater Rodent Control
Florida is known for its beautiful beaches. And sadly, Florida is also known for its rat population. The great weather we have generally allow these rodents a chance to feed and breed outdoors nearly all year long. On rare occasions, or during a cold front, a rat infestation can move indoors. That’s when it’s essential to learn how to get rid of rats. So, because an infestation may decide to move into your building, today we will discuss Clearwater Rodent Control.
How to Kill Rats
Eliminating rodents is so much more than using a mousetrap or a rat trap. It also requires sealing all holes that allow rats to enter in the first place. If the holes are not sealed, new rats will continually enter the structure, putting you on the wrong side of control. It is essential to find all openings that are greater than a quarter of an inch in size. Then, seal those areas to reduce the likelihood of reentry by the rats. Once you have sealed the openings, then use rat traps to catch the rats for removal.
Rat Traps
The use of rat traps is a particular skill. It is vital to locate the areas where the rats are walking. They may leave chew marks, oil stains from their fur, or they may leave their fecal pellets. Once you locate these areas, you have found a route where the rodent will come in contact with the traps. Make sure the traps are placed inaccessibly to pets, children, and adult fingers. Also, make sure the area on the traps where the baits are placed is facing a wall.
Rats feel most comfortable when part of their body is rubbing against a hard surface. The trap attractant to use depends on a couple of things. First, if the rat is already eating something inside your building, use that food on your trap. The rat has chosen a portion of food and feels comfortable enough to overcome its shyness and feed. Using what the rat is accustomed to allows much quicker catching results. Second, if the rats are not feeding on anything you can see, then it is best to figure out which species of rat you have and what that type of rat eats. Rat Poison
I am not a fan of using rat poison. First thing I do not like about rat poison is it will allow the rats to die anywhere, like in a wall. When rats die in an inaccessible area, they will be left to rot. Once rotting the dead rat will have a horrendous smell and a secondary infestation of flies may occur. The second reason I am not a fan of rat poison, if not correctly used or secured, domestic animals or children may come in contact with the rat baits. That in and of itself poses a massive problem for public safety.
Rat Exterminator
If the infestation is not getting under control, there are times when DIY pest control is failing, and a rat exterminator is needed. There is no shame in having to hire a rat exterminator. Also, there are times when a professional is required to get a job done due to reasons such as expertise and the proper tool. Pest control is no exception here.
