Sarasota Sees Zika Infested Mosquitoes
Sarasota Mosquitoes
The Florida Department of Health is advising residents of Sarasota county of an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity after pools of trapped bloodsuckers in the county tested positive for the infamous West Nile Virus. A”pool” defined as a collection of no more than fifty mosquitoes.
Sadly, pools of mosquitoes that tested positive for the virus collected in unincorporated areas of Sarasota County near Venice an area that Sarasota County Mosquito Management Services has already treated.
This is the first time in 2018 that the virus has been detected in the area. Fortunately, no human cases of West Nile reported in the county at this time.
West Nile Virus affects the central nervous system and can cause serious illness. However, about 80 percent of people who become infected with the virus will not show any symptoms.
As a result, to protect yourself from mosquitoes, you should remember to “Drain and Cover”:
First, DRAIN standing water to stop mosquitoes from multiplying. Second, COVER skin with clothing or repellent. Third, COVER doors and windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out of your house. If you are still having trouble, we are available as a pest control company in Sarasota.
