STEPS TO TAKE TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF BED BUGS
Treat your bed like it’s an island: Make sure the bed is not touching the wall, nightstands, or any surrounding furniture (chairs, desk, etc…). Also, make sure the blankets on the bed are not touching the floor.
Install bedbug covers: Make sure all mattresses and box springs have bedbug covers and leave them on for a minimum of 18 months
Do not throw things away or move from room to room: Moving objects, people, or furniture from one room to another will only spread the problem and make it harder to control. Also throwing away beds, couches, or other items could also spread the problem if eggs and bugs (some too small to even see) fall off.
MORE STEPS TO TAKE TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF BED BUGS
Wash/Dry linens and clothes on high heat: When changing clothes in the morning immediately place your pajamas in an airtight bag until ready for the wash. Make sure it remains closed so nothing can crawl out. Be very careful not to shake sheets when removing them from the bed. Sheets and linens should also be bagged until ready for the washer and dryer on high heat.
Eliminate clutter: Bedbugs can and will hide in any crack or crevice. The greater the number of items there are results in a greater time for control. Items should be placed in airtight bags
Vacuum regularly (2-3 times a week): Vacuum seated areas (couches and chairs), mattresses, box springs, and along the baseboards where the wall meets the floor 2-3 times a week. Then, dispose of the vacuum contents. If your vacuum has a bag, remove that bag & place into a plastic bag and tie shut. Then, places the vacuum bag into the freezer until the next use. This will kill all bed bugs inside. If you have a canister vacuum, place contents into a plastic bag tie it shut and place in the freezer for 2 days. After 2 days, you may throw out the bag.
