In the heart of the sunshine state is where you’ll find Tampa Bay. And it’s a great little part of the state. The people are nice, the weather is good. It’s got a small town feel in a big city. But like with the rest of Florida, Tampa has many of its own issues. One of the biggest issues you’ll get anywhere in this state is the pests that call it home. We have mosquitos. We have bedbugs. But our most “iconic,” if you want to call it that, the bug is probably the Palmetto bug. Yep, we have our fair share of creepy crawlies down here in the south. And today we’re going to talk about one of the worst. Tampa Bay Roaches.
Tampa Bay Roaches: What To Expect
When it comes to living in the Tampa Bay area, you’ll likely have to deal with some sort of roach problem at least once in your life. And there are multiple species that you may have to contend with as well. One of the most common you’ll see is the German Cockroach, outside of the palmetto bug itself. These guys tend to infest indoors and make pest control be a part of your yearly budget if you want to call the sunshine state your home for more than a few months.
That’s not to say that you won’t be dealing with other species, though. The American Cockroach is another heavyweight roach contender you may have to deal with. These guys are huge, gross, have spikey legs, and can fly. The problem with their flying though is that they can’t control where they’re going to go. Their bodies are too big and heavy for their wings, which is why they so often collide with humans once they’re up in the air.
And the big issue is that these guys are pretty much a fact of life down here. When you move to the sub-tropics, you’re trading away the cold weather for bugs. But that doesn’t mean you should despair, because there’s still something you can do about it.
What to do?
If you have Tampa Bay roaches infesting your home, the very FIRST thing you should do is clean. I know that likely won’t be enough, but it will at the very least force the roaches away from your kitchen and living spaces. After that, though? You have to contact a pro. It really is that simple, when a species of roach infest your home, there’s not much one untrained man can do.
And when you do contact that pro, try to use someone who uses green and pet-friendly methods of pest controls. Chemical pesticides have always been iffy when it comes to your health, and even more, so recently it’s had its safety called into question. That’s why you should try and get green pest control, someone who will do it right without risking the health of you or your loved ones.
