Three (more) Common Brandon Florida Pests   arrow

Down here in the south we have a bit of a bug problem. Between the moist air, the swampy landscape, and the mild winters; we have nothing but great bug breeding grounds. This goes double for the Sunshine State. We have every kind of parasite, pest insect, and any other creepy crawlies you can imagine. That’s why today we’ll be discussing three common Brandon Florida pests, and cover a few ways you can help keep them out of your home.

Five Common Brandon Florida Pests: Wasps

This one is a tough one for me. Wasps are a great pollinator and are a valuable tool in any ecosystem. But, they can be pretty dangerous if they populate themselves too close to your home. And Florida has quite a few species of wasp. The ones you don’t have to worry are solitary wasps. They don’t sting much, eat pest insects, and live in small holes in the ground.

Social wasps can be more of an issue though, as they’ll create hives in the eaves of your house which puts you at risk. Enough wasps can inflict serious harm on a person, and once they’ve established you really have no safe choice but to call a professional pest control agent.

Five Common Brandon Florida Pests: Biting Yellow Flies

These flies are small, fast, and bright yellow. Not to mention the fact that they’re brutally strong fliers. These guys could make it through a hurricane to deliver a bite that’ll leave you itchy for days. They’re like horseflies, but smaller and much more aggresive.

The best control outside of a specialist you can employ for these guys is to control vegetation around your home. Try to avoid letting overgrowth take root in your yard and you should be okay.

Five Common Brandon Florida Pests: Bed Bugs

These guys are gonna be an issue all year round in the south. Even the few days a year it does get cold enough to curb some of the bugs, these guys are in your house, so it doesn’t affect them!

If you have an infestation, call a pest control specialist immediately. There’s no real surefire way for a layman to get rid of bed bugs. Other than that, prevent them by traveling carefully. You’ll most likely get these guys, if you ever do, from a hotel.
