Living in the Sunshine State can really be a mixed bag. On the one hand, you have eight months of summer. But, you’re also going to be sharing that with a lot of other people! This state is growing hugely every year, and more people mean more domestic pests! That’s right, I hate to say it but you’ll find few pests like you do in Florida. And how couldn’t you? We’re one big sunny tropical paradise, just the kind of place all the biggest bugs in the world love! And with over twenty million people calling the state home these days, you can bet that there isn’t a single human-related pest you can’t find down here anymore. That’s why today we’ll cover some of the pests common to the area, and why you should choose Valrico natural pest control over chemical controls!
Valrico Natural Pest Control: The Bugs
As I mentioned above, we’ll start with three of the most common pests you’ll deal with in most areas of Florida, but have particular intensity here in the interior of central Florida outside of Tampa.
Cockroaches!
Of course, the list would start with this. And while many people from out of state have taken to calling every roach they see a palmetto bug, that’s probably not what you’ll end up dealing with. The giant, flying roaches that have that nickname prefer to live outside on the trees or in leaf litter and woodpiles. Instead, you’ll find medium-sized, invasive species instead- most often the Asian or German cockroach species.
And once an infestation of these things is established, they’re here to stay. Cockroaches are very tough insects. In fact, some of the toughest. They can live and thrive in some of the harshest environments on the planet. To the point where it’s been theorized that they will be the true inheritors of the planet should nuclear war ever wipe us out. Pretty much, they’re a brutal infestation to deal with. You’ll want to get a hold of some Valrico natural pest control as soon as you suspect you have these in your home. And remember, for every one dead roach you see- there are three living ones hiding in the walls.
Mosquitos
Well, if you hate mosquitoes, reconsider moving to Valrico! Tampa itself is considered one of the sixteen worst mosquito-infested cities in the country. And out here in the country, that goes double! If you’ve ever lived on or next to a strawberry field after a storm, you’ll know exactly what I mean. The year-round humid weather is something that the mosquitoes love. And thanks to the robust farming industry of the area, where irrigation and plant watering happen and leave standing water almost every day, they have the ability to breed basically whenever they’d like!
Because of this, expect mosquito bites when you step outdoors. And sure, there are some home solutions. A tiki torch here, some bug spray there. Heck, if you’re by a bonfire that just may work! But the clouds here get thick, fast. And on a cloudy day, you won’t believe how bad the mosquitoes can get!
Unfortunately, these bugs are also powerful vectors of disease. They can spread things like malaria, the West Nile virus, and Zika. They’re transmitted from person to person through the insect’s saliva when they bite. So any bloodborne disease you can think of, they can give to you. It’s easy to not take them seriously, since they’re so numerous, but always be careful when dealing with a mosquito infestation!
Bed Bugs
And onto another pest, the Tampa area ranks in the top twenty for! That’s right, we take home that trophy for bed bugs too. And that shouldn’t be a surprise, thanks to the booming tourism industry of this state. Not to mention the “quality” of motels and hotels you’ll find in the Tampa area.
And while household bugs are unfortunately common here, you’ll need to have a bed bug infestation treated. These are a pest that will never go away on their own, and unless you’re extremely lucky, you won’t be able to find all of their hiding places. Bed bugs can live in your furniture, carpets, outlets, and any gap or crack in your walls and floors. And if that wasn’t bad enough, they’re parasitic! They wait until you fall asleep and then they crawl all over you, leaving you with a little less blood and a lot more reason to contact us for some Valrico natural pest control!
Valrico Natural Pest Control: Why use a natural method?
Now, I’ll start with my personal biggest reason for using natural pest control. And that is the simple fact that it’s better for the environment. Chemical spray, even when effective, has harmful effects on the surrounding environment. This includes damage to animals, soil, water, and you! Organic pest control, obviously, will not do that.
Orange oil, our primary mode of pest control, is not. Orange oil is a non-toxic and non-irritating oil. There are potential side effects should undiluted oil make contact with your skin, such as contact dermatitis and skin inflammation, but that’s why you leave it up to the professionals. And even then, that’s much less damaging than most commercial sprays, which can be a hazard to your health for some time after an application.
Also, orange oil is much less harmful to lawns. Diluted oil, even in repeat application, shouldn’t do too much damage to your grass if applied by a professional.
Organic pesticides are also effective for a longer period of time than chemical sprays. Chemical sprays, especially when used improperly, can cause fast-reproducing bugs to gain immunities. In fact, some populations of the German Cockroach are known to be immune to certain types of poison because of this.
