If you’ve lived in the Southlands for long enough, you’ll know we have plenty of bugs. And once you get into Florida? Well, they’re even more of an issue. There are plenty of creepy crawlies in the sunshine state that’ll have you calling for a central Florida exterminator service. So today, we’ll talk about that a bit. But first, let’s talk about just what kind of bugs you can expect to see in central Florida.

Central Florida Exterminator: Overview

I often talk about how beautiful this state is. Warm weather, tropical climates, and some nature left even if it’s rapidly diminishing. However, we’re not the only species that love this kind of environment. Down in Florida, there is no bug season. All year round is bug season, from January to December. Also, our warm and humid weather is an ideal state for bugs to live, thrive, and breed in.

So, let’s get into some of the bugs that you can expect to come across down here in the sunshine state. The first we’ll start with is easily the most common infesting insect in the state.

How bad are ants in Florida?

Well, bad! I hate to say it, but Florida has a perfect environment for ants. Because of this, we’re host to dozens of species both native and invasive, with one of them being the notorious fire ant. Some of the other species you may find in the state include the

  • carpenter ant
  • big-headed ant
  • ghost ant
  • acrobat ant
  • pharaoh ant
  • Caribbean crazy ant

And honestly more than I could possibly list here. But the worst among this group are the fire ants for sure. At least in my opinion, anyway. No other species I’ve come across in my life here is as aggressive. And that’s partially due to the chemical in this ant’s stinger. Fire ants don’t inflict pain with their bite as much as their sting. They bite you to clamp down and keep a hold of you, and then they proceed to repeatedly sting you. But you’ll have to deal with more than one, unfortunately, since the chemical that causes that painful, irritating itching also attracts other fire ants to come and sting you! I always run for a central Florida exterminator if a fire ant problem crops up.

How bad are the roaches in Florida?

Short answer? Bad. Long answer? Well, let’s start off with the fact that the “palmetto” bug you’re thinking of isn’t a palmetto bug. Those gigantic, three inch long cockroaches you see in Florida? They’re American cockroaches. Palmetto bugs are instead the Florida woods roach, called such for usually being found in palm plants.

What does that have to do with how bad the bugs are down here? Well, there are enough different kinds of cockroaches that I just had to correct your assumption on what a palmetto bug is! But we also have two of the worst species in the world when it comes to infesters in Florida.

These are the German and Asian species of cockroach. Both are ruthless infesters, but if you see a German cockroach, understand that the infestation is already there and you need to contact a central Florida exterminator ASAP. German cockroaches are light brown to tan, with two dark, parallel stripes located on their backs just behind their heads. These guys are found throughout the entire state, so keep your eyes peeled and your sink clean.

Anywhere in this state that has garbage, you’re going to find cockroaches. Restaurants, homes, businesses. If a building has humans in Florida, expect to see cockroaches at some point. Up to ninety percent of homes in Florida can house a cockroach at once during certain times of the year.

How bad are Florida mosquitoes

I’ll go ahead and tell you now, they’re bad. It doesn’t matter how much fun you’re having laying by the pool. It doesn’t matter how much you’re enjoying playing in the mark. And it really doesn’t matter how much you’d like to just sit on your front porch. Because the mosquitoes are coming, and they’re hungry.

There was a time in the past when Florida had a mosquito season. But in the past decade or so, it stopped getting cold enough to inhibit the growth of the mosquito population. You see, around 50F is when mosquitoes start to bed down and go into a slumber or die off. Because of this, there was a period from roughly mid-December to late February that you’d have a little bit of relief. Now though, it’ll get cold enough to kill off mosquitoes maybe one or two days out of the whole year!

The worst places for mosquitoes are anywhere near coastal, swampy, or heavily wooded areas. And honestly, good luck escaping any of those in Florida! But, these are places that mosquitoes love. One is obviously for the cover and protection, you won’t find many mosquitoes nesting in open fields if they don’t have to. Also, these places tend to have plenty of water that the mosquitoes need to reproduce. But it takes very little water for one mosquito to become many, and then you’re running for some central Florida exterminator help!

Things like old cars, spare tires, cans, and anything that can hold water need to be cleaned up around the home. Otherwise, you’re just giving these guys a free trip into your backyard.

Can I control mosquitoes on my own?

Honestly, no. These are voracious, fast breeding, flying pests. Basically, everything about them is designed to survive human attempts at extermination. However, feel free to click here and read about our mosquito smack! service to get some help from a pro.
