RATS & MICE

Rats

1.    Approximately 6-12 pups per litter.

2.    Gestation period is 21-25 days.

3.    A healthy female can have roughly 3-6 litters per year.

4.    Generally they are most active one hour after sunset and just before dawn.

5.    Rats are omnivores.

6.    Rats are neophobic.

7.    On average, rats tend to have a home range of 100 feet. However, they have been known to travel greater distances if food is not readily available.

8.    Average rat consumes 0.5-1 ounce of food per day.  If a large infestation is present, then there is an abundance of food available.  Maintain sanitary conditions to reduce and assist in preventing new infestations.

Mice

1.    A litter consists of 2-13 mice. Five to six young are the average.

2.     Gestation period is 18-21 days.

3.    Indoors, mice can live up to 2 years.

4.    Generally they are most active one hour after sunset and just before dawn.

5.    Mice are omnivores.

6.    On average, mice tend to have a home range of 20 feet. However, they have been known to travel greater distances if food is not readily available.
