How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
Signs of bedbugs
Bed bug bites are generally the first indication that bed bugs are present. These bites generally start small and can grow and become inflamed as they are scratched.
The second indication that many will see are blood stains on the sheets. As a bedbug feeds, some of the blood will drip leaving spots that are easily seen by anyone taking the time to look.
Lastly, live, or even dead bedbugs will be seen either on sheets, mattress, box spring, etc.
How to Check for Bed Bugs
Start by stripping the bed slowly. Remove the comforter, blanket, and sheets. Look for dead bed bugs, live bedbugs, and blood stains.
Next check the mattress for dead bed bugs, live bedbugs, and blood stains. Be sure to check the folds as well. Flip the mattress and repeat the process from the underside.
Now check the top of the box spring and the bottom as well. Once the box spring has been inspected, make sure to give a thorough check of the bed frame as well.
You are not done as of yet. A headboard is a perfect place for those blood-sucking bed bugs to hide. Be sure to remove, carefully, and inspect for signs of even one bed bug.
The nightstands, dressers, the couch, and your chairs are also great nesting sites for bed bugs. Be sure to include these with your inspection.
Bed Bugs Treatment
There are many different products and methods to choose from to control your bed bug infestation. There are bed bug sprays, freezing works, so does steaming and vacuuming with a pest vacuum.
Start by removing bedding. Carefully use a steamer to heat the areas where the bed bugs are nesting. Be careful not to burn the mattress or to damage the furniture.
Next, if you have access to a professional bed bug freeze machine, which freezes and kills the bed bugs on contact, now is the time to use it.
The following step is to use a pest vacuum to remove all bedbugs seen and the bed bug eggs.
Finally, use a bed bug spray labeled for bed bugs. Make sure to read and apply the product in accordance with the label only.
Bed bugs are no joke. They can be very difficult to control without professional help. A bed bug spray, alone, is not enough to control a bed bug infestation. Often, a bed bug exterminator is needed to gain complete control.
